A-Level Environmental Science

AQA Exam Board

This is a brand new course for 2019/20

Studying the Environmental Studies A Level enables students to gain a deep and well-informed insight into the environment, and the scientific processes that control and affect it. The central theme is the development of an understanding of how different events and cycles within the environment interrelate, how they influence environmental events, the human impacts on these events and cycles, and the strategies that can be used to minimise the problems caused.

Course Units

The core units that will be covered in this course are:

  • The Living Environment
  • The Physical Environment
  • Energy Resources
  • Pollution
  • Biological Resources
  • Sustainability
  • Research Methods

Students are also taught a range of research methods, drawing on scientific skills from biology and mathematics. 

Modules

A subject expert teaches the subject over two years.  Students sit two exam papers both are 3 hours.  

Paper 1 – Physical environment, Energy resources, pollution, Research methods (50%) 

Paper 2 – the living environment, biological resources, sustainability, research methods (50%) 

Entry Criteria

GCSE Grade 6 (ideally in geography and biology).
