KS4 Curriculum Intention

At KS4 students follow the AQA GCSE Sociology Specification. The specification offers a breadth of study in both subject areas, which will build directly upon the learning taken place in the Year 9 foundation year. The sociology GCSE offers the traditional route to further A level study, although some students will use it as a springboard to further vocational study.

Exam KS4 Curriculum Knowledge

The sequential nature of curriculum planning begins with the foundations of the sociological approach which prepares students for studying sociology, which is then applied to topic areas of families, education, and crime. This builds students' knowledge of the process of socialisation, primary, in the home and secondary, in schools. This prepares them to explore the explanations of causes of crime and deviance, many of which refer to the socialisation process. Social stratification is a reflective topic, to which students can apply their knowledge and understanding of the three topic areas.
