Meet some of our former students.

Former Scarborough UTC student Matt Duley secured an apprenticeship with one of our main sponsors UNISON ltd after graduating.

“I am currently an apprentice with Unison of Scarborough, who I was introduced to while I was a student at Scarborough UTC and studying there helped me get the interview without doubt.  I chose to study at Scarborough UTC because the engineering courses that they were offering were unique and fitted in with my future aspirations for being an engineer.

Some of the biggest highlights were getting to work on the projects with people in my class and year group and with the people from industry, like Unison, who came in to help out during classes. The opportunity to work closely with employers is something very different to what other education providers offer. During my time at Scarborough UTC I learnt you can only get as much out of something as you are willing to put in yourself and the work ethic instilled in me by Scarborough UTC, making sure I got work done on time and to the best standard I could, has helped me to gain this opportunity.”

Our previous students

Former Scarborough UTC student Thomas Goddard has graduated and become an apprentice draughtsman with our employer partners Kingspan.

“I’d heard of Kingspan prior to enrolling at Scarborough UTC but didn’t know the depth of the company or the range of products they made. I also didn’t know how global the company was either.

I chose to study at the UTC because of their fantastic facilities as I was interested in electrical engineering. One of my old teachers once told me “there’s no elevator to success you have to take the stairs” – This made me realise you have to work your way up to achieve your goals, you have to work hard to achieve what you want. Something the UTC has prepared me well for.

Achieving my final grade has unlocked many pathways and doors and allowed me to take my study to the next level. UTC has helped me by giving me a good knowledge of engineering. It gave me the platform to develop myself and my career as an engineer. I think the work experience that UTC organised at the end of my first year really helped too and gave me an advantage over other people when I was applying for apprenticeships.”

Former Scarborough UTC student Hana Hinton has secured a place on the Dyson Academy Degree Apprenticeship with the University of Warwick.

“I got onto an exclusive future pathway at the Dyson Academy through my studies at the UTC. I have been to the F1 in Schools World Finals and gained a place at the prestigious Williams F1 Mentoring Scheme. I have had lots of great opportunities here that I would not have had elsewhere and I have really enjoyed doing creative projects.”

Former Scarborough UTC student Nathan Golby graduated with a place at Birmingham University studying Nuclear Engineering.

“Here at the UTC you are treated as a person and not a number and I gained lots from the supportive atmosphere. The staff and students have excellent relationships and the learning has been personalised to my needs.”

Former Scarborough UTC student Adam Sweeting secured an apprenticeship with Rillington based Ellis Patents.

‘I have managed to get a brilliant apprenticeship with Rillington based Ellis patents who make electrical cleats, in my role I will be designing and prototyping (3D printing) their newest products and I will be on day release to Derwent training! I cannot wait to start! Thank you so much for your help and everything Scarborough UTC has done for me; it really has been one of the best and most monumental times of my life that was quite literally life-changing.’
