Career Development Programme

At Scarborough UTC, we don’t stop at academia, you’ll learn the practical skills you need to nail an interview, write a killer CV and stand up against your peers in an increasingly competitive job market… So, how do we do it?

Throughout your studies you’ll become familiar with top names from some of the largest and most important employers in Scarborough, they’ll work with you on projects, be on hand to offer advice and will judge your final pieces of work. As well as this, you’ll be exposed industry experts, you’ll get the opportunity to explore your career options and speak directly to employers about the path that’s going to get you there.

You’ll become confident in presenting your ideas and you’ll be pushed to work outside of your comfort zone. You’ll get a real feel for the workplace and once you’ve graduated, you’ll be ready to slot right in.

This unique Sixth Form opportunity is for you to work with employers to support you and prepare you for a future career. In year 12 you apply to one of our companies and will gain the following:

  • Mentoring Sessions
  • Industrial Visits
  • Work Experience
  • Bespoke Career Opportunities

Many employers offer advice with applications and interviews. They will introduce you to their companies and the many different careers that are available within them.
Here’s what some of our students think:

“It has been a genuine pleasure to work with Taleen at Anglo American on the career development program. Not only has she been able to organise interesting tours and meetings with the staff on site to get an insight on Anglo American, but she has also supported Ewan and I through our decision making and personal development to lead us into our post 18 study/work.”

“Having a mock interview before my interview with the Royal Navy really helped me to prepare and boosted my confidence. My mentor through the Career Development Programme has been very supportive”.

“The workshops in coding and on interview techniques with GCHQ helped me to understand what employers are looking for”
